CodeCraftCon Glasgow - a tech conference with a twist

A couple of weeks ago I had the fortune to speak at [CodeCraftCon](https://ti.to/codecraftconf/summer-2015" target="_blank) in Glasgow, UK. How very fortunate as the venue was only 15 mins away from where I live! But this was not the only reason why the event was such a success. The conference was great, the location fantastic, the food extremely tasty and the overall outcome exceeded people's expectations. I greatly applaud and support events like this which can benefit the local developer community. CodeCraftCon was the first event I attended that the format was wildly different …[read more]

Visual Studio 2015 tips and tricks - Visug talk, Belgium

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to be invited to speak at Visug, the .NET User Group in Belgium. Attendance was good (about 35-40 people) though it could have been better should the road access hadn't been impacted by massive traffic delays. Nonetheless, the show must go on and we did the talk as planned. For those that missed the talk, I've recorded the whole (I think I did since the camera battery died at some point) session and I will be posting a link to it shortly. A lot of people asked me whether they could get access to the …[read more]

SwanseaCon - Talking about common problems with TDD

Next week (7-9th September 2015) I will be delivering a talk on "Common problems with TDD" at the [SwanseaCon conference](http://swancon.co.uk/" target="_blank) in beautiful Wales, UK. It's my first time in Wales at this first-time conference, so I'm really excited to be part of this event. In my session, I'll be talking about Test Driven Development (TDD) and the common pitfalls that companies and developers tend to fall in while using this approach to development. You will get a quick introduction to TDD, what made it so successful and then we'll look …[read more]

TechMeetup Edinburgh - Getting Started with Microsoft Azure Development

Yesterday I had a great time talking to the TechMeetup user group in Edinburgh. The event was hosted by SkyScanner in their fanky and cool-looking offices and we had a very interesting and enthusiastic audience. The format was slightly different to what I'm used to when speaking to user groups and I will explain now. Firstly, the meetup opened with introductions, something that you don't usually see in larger user groups. Everyone in the room got a chance to introduce themselves and speak briefly about what they do and what they're looking to get out of the session. For me, …[read more]

/Dev/Summer Conference - Cambridge 2015

I’m just back from the attending and speaking at /Dev/Summer which was back in Cambridge this year with lots of great and interesting talks. I really enjoyed being part of this fantastic event and even more so for being able to give a talk about Open Source. The conference was hosted at the Moreland College, which is part of Cambridge university, and I have to admit that the overall venue was very well organized. The whole building was "state of the art" from the coffee machines to the projectors in each room! This is Cambridge after …[read more]

./NET/Fringe retrospect - the best .NET OSS conference

I'm just back from DotNetFringe! Before flying to Portland, Oregon, I blogged about how Glenn Block arranged for a free ticket (thanks Glenn!) and helped me organise my first trip to the US in order to attend and speak at the conference. After having an amazing time in Portland, hanging out with some really cool developers and learning about a lot of new technologies and tools, I decided to share my thoughts about my overall experience and explain why you should make it your goal to attend next year. Yes, everyone agreed that there should and will be a follow …[read more]

DevWeek 2015 London – Retrospect

This year, I was fortunate enough to be selected as a speaker for DevWeek 2015 in London. In case you haven’t had the chance to attend or is the first time you hear of this conference, then I would highly recommend you make it your goal to be attend next year. DevWeek is the UK’s leading developer conference with over 100 breakout sessions and 23 full day workshops. The amount of information and knowledge you can accumulate in 5 days is immense and you will, most likely, leave the conference with some great ideas and a buzz about …[read more]

The all new GlasgowMobile User Group

Glasgow has a vibrant community of developers who like to get together and discuss about technology. For a city of its size, I would say that the technology sector is pretty big and there are lots of different user groups that one can join and find like-minded people to share ideas, have a friendly chat, make some friends and, maybe, learn something new. In the past we had excellent speakers visiting our city, such as Scott Gu and Scott Hanselman and lots others that I haven't had the fortune to meet in person. I would like to see more of …[read more]
